What you are paying for
A pre-purchase vehicle inspection: more than 120 checks, carried out by one of our inspectors where the car is parked, and a written report of what was found, with every critical point photographed.
You pay for the inspection and the report, not for a particular outcome. A report that finds serious problems with a car is the service doing its job.
The fee is confirmed when you book, and it is paid at booking. Any prices we publish before we launch in January 2027 are indicative and may change. The price on your booking confirmation is the one that applies.
If you cancel
Cancel more than 24 hours before your booked time and you get the full fee back.
Cancel within 24 hours, or if nobody is there to present the car when our inspector arrives, and we keep a call-out fee and refund the rest.
The call-out fee covers the cost of the trip and nothing more. It is worked out from the distance of the round trip from George, at the rate the South African Revenue Service prescribes for vehicle running costs, plus the inspector's time on the road, with a minimum charge for trips within George.
We make nothing on it, and we tell you the amount for your address when you book, so you know it before you could ever need it.
The 24 hours is practical, not a penalty. Within a day we can no longer offer the slot to someone else, and our inspector has already planned the route around your address.
If we cannot come
If we cancel, for any reason, you choose: another date at no cost, or your money back in full, with no call-out fee and no deduction. That includes an inspector being ill, our vehicle breaking down, and weather that makes a road test impossible.
If a document is missing on the day
We ask you to have the original registration certificate and the owner's identity document available on the day.
If one of them is missing, the inspection still goes ahead and every check is carried out. We hold back only the report, until we have seen the document, because we will not describe papers we have not looked at.
You then have 14 days to show it to us. You can bring the car and the document to us in George at a time we agree, at no charge, or we can come back to you for the call-out fee. Bringing it to us is usually the cheaper option.
After 14 days you choose: show us the document, or accept the report with a note on the first page that the document was not seen. That report carries no window sticker and no listing.
No part of the fee is refunded in this case, because the full inspection was carried out.
If the inspection is stopped
Some findings stop an inspection where it stands: a vehicle identification number that does not match the papers, an engine number that has been ground off or re-stamped, a dashboard plate that has been tampered with, or an odometer reading lower than one already on record.
When that happens, the inspection ends, you receive a report of what was found, and the fee is not refunded. The work was done, the vehicle history data was paid for, and our inspector travelled to you.
We say this at booking so that it is never a surprise.
If you disagree with what we found
Tell us. Email contact@b4uinspections.co.za with the report reference from the first page of your report, and tell us what you think is wrong and why.
We will go back to the photographs and the inspector's record and reply to you. If we got something wrong, we will correct the report and confirm it in writing.
Disagreeing with a finding is not, on its own, grounds for a refund. The inspection was carried out, and the report records what our inspector found.
How refunds are paid
Refunds go back to the card or account the payment came from. We cannot refund to a different card, a different person, or in cash.
We process a refund within 3 working days of agreeing it. It usually reaches your account 3 to 10 working days after that, depending on your bank.
